Meet Mariette Dupuy, a PhD student in the Liryc signal processing team since 2020.
Mariette, what is your position at Liryc?
I am a PhD attached to the ASTRAL team at the INRIA center of the University of Bordeaux and to the Liryc Signal Processing team. I study mathematics, statistics and computer science applied to cardiology.
What does it mean to be a PhD student in Signal Processing at Liryc?
My research project is to develop a mathematical algorithm able to predict sudden cardiac death. I’m using artificial intelligence algorithms to address this research problem.
My ambition is to develop a mathematical model based on unstudied data, collected by non-invasive recording of the cardiac signal at the surface of the chest.
Why did you choose to pursue a scientific career?
I always liked science, which is why I enrolled on a Data Scientist course at the University of Bordeaux. During my training, I was keen to apply mathematical concepts to very concrete applications, particularly in the healthcare field.
I’m particularly proud to work on a thesis that brings together science and healthcare, which are my two favorite fields.
Any advice for the younger generation?
You shouldn’t be afraid to have high ambitions and do what you love. I believe that, before starting a scientific career, it’s important to find out about all the possibilities. The scientific discipline is vast: there’s something for everyone!
